What About Updating My Website? |
|
Very often your website updates take
only a few minutes. It may be a new
page (the navigation structure will
have to be changed), it may be you
wish to delete a page (the
navigation structure needs to be
changed and the htaccess file
updated for the search engines) or
your may simply wish to change some
of the content or add a picture.
Whatever changes you decide to make
to your website, your xml sitemap
needs to be updated with Google and
Yahoo.
Any updating we do for our current
and past clients includes the xml
sitemap update.

Murphy's Law - "Whatever may go
wrong, will go wrong." |
|
It is critical that before you
think about editing your own website
or blog, you understand the basics
of editing, html code etc. The tools
you use to edit your website are
actually less important than the
skills to use them. Once you
have the skills, choosing the
correct tools is fairly easy and
safe.
Your website blog through WordPress
is very simple to use if you are
adding new entries, but altering of
internal parts of the blog will very
likely end in disaster. This is one
of the reasons we always include a
Plug-in for WordPress that backs up
your databases! |

Is It Possible To Update My Own
Site? |
|
Once you have your website "live",
you may be wondering how you can
make changes to it yourself, without
having to pay a web designer. There
are two main options:
-
There are many HTML editing
tools available for making
changes to your pages.
-
Purchase website editing
software such as FrontPage
-
To update your website from your
computer, you will need an FTP
program. There are several great
free programs available online,
such as
CoreFTP
(which we use). If you already
have an FTP program, you simply
FTP into your account and upload
your new or updated html files.

Time Trade Off |
|
Usually editing your blog or website
will take much longer than having a
professional do the job. It's not
unusual to spend hours (days
actually, considering if often takes
days to get a response to your
inquiries) in support
forums. The advantage? You can make
changes whenever it suits you.
Whatever your decision on time and
cost, you must take some time to
learn HTML and the workings of a
website.
The more you can learn about how
websites work, the safer and more
effective you will be. |

KISS Web-Site Maintenance |
|
Because we realize you don't want to
pay for an hours worth of labor for
15 minutes of work, we will prorate
all web update changes to the
nearest quarter of an hour or we can
set up a monthly maintenance package
for your site. |
